How To Build CONFIDENCE- a core value

What is Confidence?

Have you ever admired that person that walks into a room and everyone is drawn to them? That person holds their head high and knows who they are. They understand what they bring to the table with confidence. How do you develop into that person? How does one build confidence?

Confidence is a core value that can be described as a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s own abilities or qualities. It is the belief in oneself that one has the ability to succeed through life’s challenges. To be confident, we want to be secure but not arrogant. It isn’t about feeling better than others, but the knowledge that one is capable. Confidence comes from the Latin word fidere which means to trust. When we have self-confidence, we then trust ourselves.

Why Is Confidence Important?

Confidence is attractive, brings success, helps to connect well with others, and you generally feel better. It elevates you to live your life to the fullest. Building Confidence helps people know themselves and accept who they are. Confident people earn more money, get more promotions, and are all-around happier people.

A lack of confidence holds people back from living their authentic selves. Without confidence, people might not try new things or reach out to new people. After failure at something, one may shy away from attempting something new again due to lacking confidence. It is essential to have the self-confidence to explore your dreams and reach your true potential.

How To Build Self Confidence

Confidence is an ability that can be acquired over time. Each month I focus on a value, trait, or virtue to incorporate into my life. Follow mine, or choose your own value in this exercise. Start by finding your core values in Identify Your Core Values and Find Clarity. Try these tips and include the below affirmations and quotes to set your intention daily.

  • Post and recite your affirmations daily. I set alarms on my phone to ring throughout the day with my monthly core value. This reminds me throughout the day of the core value I have set for myself to work towards. I also journal about how I used that value during the day.
  • Build a confident mindset by correcting yourself. If you say “I can’t,” train your mind to say, “I can,” and then give it a try.
  • Challenge yourself to do something outside your comfort zone. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome and thus develop a little more self-confidence. Rinse and repeat with new actions, and you will develop more confidence.
